Your Mother Was Right: Sit Up Straight!

Sitting

Nobody ever intends to slouch. But the truth is, you probably do from time to time and slouching actually impacts your overall health. While it doesn’t seem like something that’s too difficult to do, some people struggle mightily with maintaining proper posture. People come into our Irvine chiropractic offices all the time with the sure signs of slouching! My Next Level Wellness counterparts and I are going to help you put an end to your poor posture!

I often say, “this seems like a no-brainer…”, But I’m going to tell you – this is a no-brainer!   Half of the battle in correcting poor posture is to become aware of how you carry yourself! Here are 4 slam-dunk ways to get you back back in business!

Sit Against You Chair’s Back

Let’s get the easiest, most obvious one out of the way! Stop sitting on the edge of your seat. Stop sitting in the middle of your seat. Sit all the way back in your seat. No more hunching, no more leaning, hopefully no more pain.

Plant Your Feet

It doesn’t matter if you’re sitting or standing. Keep the soles of your feet planted! This helps prevent the constant shifting of weight from one side to the other, creating an imbalance. If you’ve ever wondered how your body lost its alignment, this is your answer!

Turn Your Palms Upward

This sounds a little bit odd, but if you can get the hang of it, your body will thank you. When you are standing, point your thumbs away from your body with your palms facing upward. It will feel awkward at first, but I promise you, this minor adjustment helps keep your shoulder blades pulled back and your chest open.
