When You’re On The Go, Increase Your Blood Flow

Woman At Train Station

Whether you’re traveling for business or pleasure, most of your time is probably spent catching planes, trains, and taxis. To keep your body healthy and strong, use your surroundings to work out while you make your way through your journey.

Luggage and Water Bottles

If you’re waiting for your flight or train, use the items that are closest to you to keep your body from being stationary longer than it needs to be. If you have a suitcase or large bag, practice using these to do bear hug squats like in the photo shown below. This is a great move to quickly work up your heart rate and get your legs moving before sitting for a long period of time.

For a lighter, yet effective, workout, turn your water bottles into dumbbells. Place a bottle in each hand then begin to perform curls as you bend your elbows and raise the bottles towards your shoulders to strengthen the front of your upper arm. You can also lift the bottles overhead to strengthen your shoulders.

Rest Stop Tables and Benches

If you’re taking a long trip, it’s likely that you’ll visit rest stops along the way. Take those moments and turn them into workout opportunities. Use the tables and benches to perform step-ups and dip and kicks in order to work your entire body.

Step-ups engage your entire core, which can help prevent back injuries in the future. The stronger your abdominal and oblique muscles are, the more support your back will have. This can also help your back become less stiff during a long ride in the car; a sign that your body is experiencing stress and strain from sitting in one position for too long.

Dip and kicks will work both your arms and legs. Face away from the wall, place your hands down, and keep your legs at a ninety-degree angle. As you dip down, bring your leg in and tighten your abdominal muscles. Then, simultaneously push yourself up and kick your leg out while still making sure to engage your core.
