The Top 3 Stretches You Should Do At Work

Stretching

No matter where you are, sitting in one position for a long period of time is never good for your health. Our bodies were made to move and walk and stretch. If your job restricts your movement to just mouse clicks and typing, consider incorporating these three simple stretches into your workday.

Neck and Shoulder Rolls

As you’re sitting in your chair, roll your neck from side to side then back and forth. Repeat these motions several times, then begin to roll your shoulders up and down. All of these movements will help loosen your muscles while breaking up the routine of looking at a computer monitor.

Air Circles

Throughout the day, take your arms from their static position to a lively circular motion. Whether you stand or sit, place your arms out to the side and begin making circles. Start out making large circles then get smaller and smaller. The large circles will help wake up your body and stretch your entire upper body and the smaller circles will actually work your muscles.

Leg Extensions

When you’re at your desk, grab the edge of your chair to brace yourself. Next, lift your legs straight out in front of you so that they’re parallel to the ground, then flex and point your toes. You can either do both legs at once or do one leg at a time. Repeat this stretch for several reps. These movements will give your legs and feet a much needed stretch and will get your blood flowing to these areas that are normally stationary.

The next time you’re at work, be aware of how long you’ve been sitting and listen to your body. If you feel the need to stretch or move, incorporating these exercises into your workday will keep you healthier and happier.
