Simple Stretches To Help Ease Back Pain

Stretching

If you’ve benefitted from chiropractic treatment, you might wish you could have a daily adjustment or work have a massage therapist work the kinks out every day! But chances are, you only get by our Irvine Next Level Wellness offices once a week. Part of our program is to give you stretches at home for in between the visits. Even when you are not injured, I advocate a stretching routine to keep your body loose and flexible. Here are a few simple stretches you can do to help keep your body feeling good.

Child’s Pose

This is the most basic pose in yoga. Rest your hands and knees on the floor. Tuck your hands under your shoulders and your knees under your hips. Stretch your arms out directly in front of you, extending as far as possible. Keep your hips back towards your heels.

Cat-Cow Stretch

Unlike child’s pose, cat-cow is not tucked in, but you will want to extend your back upward. Like child’s pose, start on all fours, with your hands under aligned under your shoulders and knees perfectly below your hips. Start with a straight spine and then slowly round your back like a cat would. This helps stretch between your shoulders.

Knee to Chest Stretch

For this one, you will roll over onto your back. Next, you will slowly bring your knees up to your chest and hold them in. Hold here for several deep breaths, about 30 seconds and release.
