4 Ways To Stay Fit On Summer Vacation… And Still Splurge!
It’s officially June, which means it’s almost summertime! While June Gloom is still in effect, this is the time to plan out summer vacations with your family and friends. Whether you’re headed to a tropical destination or planning to explore big cities, going on vacation doesn’t have to hinder your health and fitness goals. Here are the best ways to stay in shape while you’re on vacation!
Bring Your Own Food
One of the best ways to stay on track this summer is to pack your own food. If your travels include airplanes or boats, there are items you can bring like protein bars, nuts, and dried fruits. If you’re going on a road trip, pack up a portable cooler and bring fruits, veggies, and healthy sandwiches! By preparing your own food, this ensures you won’t be quick to buy something unhealthy to quench your hunger.
Utilize The Hotel Gym
Most accommodations have a hotel for use for visitors and guests. Get your butt in there! Make time every day or every other day for yourself and your health. Even if it’s jumping on the treadmill for 20 minutes, get your body moving. Staying active and continuing your workouts on your vacation also means less recovery time when you get back from vacation. We all know the dreaded Mondays after a long break!
So, your hotel doesn’t have a gym? Head outdoors and go for a light jog or walk. Do anything to get your heart rate up and muscles moving! And of course, ditch the taxi or Uber, and walk around town!
Find Smart Substitutes
Vacations are all about indulging on treats and cocktails as much as possible. While this is completely okay to do (as you should do it!), balance is key. If you know you’re going to an extravagant dinner one night, sub out healthy options all day long to prepare for your meal that night! Even the smallest substitutes, like asking for dressing on the side, will go a long way.
Drink WATER!
One of the biggest problems that I see with my athletes when they come back from vacation is dehydration. From lying in the sun to sipping on cocktails to lengthy flights, our bodies will lose hydration. Continue drinking your 8 glasses of water a day to feel healthy long after your vacation!
