Taking the Pain out of Tennis Elbow

Do you love tennis?

Whether you belong to a local club or you take advantage of the many public tennis courts around Orange County, tennis is a great way to get some exercise.

From weekend warriors to the more serious players, the repetition in the movements of the arm can cause injuries.

Over the past several years, our team at Next Level Wellness in Irvine have seen many tennis players – from professionals to youth players – come in with what’s commonly known as ‘tennis elbow.’

Tennis elbow is a fun term for lateral epicondylitis, which is the muscles of the forearm are inflamed.  This can be from the repetition of the racquet coming over in your shots, to some minor trauma to the area.

We want to provide you with some stretches to help with the pain.

The first stretch is to grab your fingers and pull them back while keeping your elbow straight. This movement will help stretch out the flexor muscles.

The second stretch I’d like you to do is to rotate your arm backward. This is called the ‘Waiter’s Tip,’ and it helps stretch the flexors. Make sure you extend your shoulder and extend your wrist for a complete stretch.
