Fighting Back Pain With Diet
If you want to find the source of your back pain, instead of scrutinizing what’s happening in the gym, you may be better off taking a close look at what’s going on in the kitchen!
Believe it or not, what’s in your pantry and your refrigerator could be the key to your ailment. It’s quite possible that your diet is contributing to your back pain. Many foods have been shown to reduce (or increase) inflammation, a known cause of back pain. So what do you put on the menu? Here are three suggestions of what you can eat and drink to give your better health, and possibly a better-feeling back!
Deeply colored fruits and vegetables
Carrots, beets, sweet potatoes, cherries, berries, grapes, red wine, pomegranate, and watermelon can all be incredibly effective with regards to reducing back pain as well as a key component in maintaining an anti-inflammatory diet. Not to mention, they are all highly nutritious.
Herbs and Spices
Basil, ginger, rosemary, garlic, cumin, onions, oregano, cinnamon, and turmeric have been found to contain high amounts of anti-inflammatory agents. Experts recommend to cook and/or season the majority of your foods with these anti-inflammatory herbs and spices.
Teas
Drinking healthy herbal teas can be incredibly beneficial for relieving back pain. Green, oolong, and white can help. Green tea, in particular, can help alleviate back pain because it has the ability to reduce cartilage inflammation in the spinal column, which contributes greatly to back pain and stiffness.
While what you put in your body can be monumentally beneficial to your overall health and well being, it’s important to note that food is not the only answer. Diet should be viewed as part of the solution and something that can be done in combination with various other methods. Taking medicine, exercising, working with a chiropractor, taking calcium supplements can be combined with eating the proper anti-inflammatory foods. It’s always wise to consult with a physician to find the right combination that works best for you.
