Three Exercises To Help Ease Lower Back Pain

So many patients come into our Next Level Wellness Irvine chiropractic offices with moderate back pain. Some can’t even stand up straight. Almost as frustrating as the pain is the uncertainty of how it happened. Whether you’re sore from running 26.2, hanging ten, working 9 to 5 for 40 hours a week or maybe you’re pregnant, your back can revolt when it is strained and overworked. While each patient’s injury is unique and their specific treatment is unique, there are some general exercises everyone can do to benefit and loosen up the back muscles.

Knee Drop

If you sit at a desk all day, this is the exercise for you! Here is a video from Livestrong.com.   Lie down on your back with your knees bent and arms out wide. Drop your knees first to the left side, and then to the right, trying to drop your knees as close to the floor as possible. You will feel an amazing stretch along the inside of your thigh, glutes, and lower back.

Butterfly Exercise

If you suffer from lower back soreness, this stretch will help release some of that tension and pressure. Start sitting with your heels touching. Grab your ankles and try to pull your chest down towards your knees and feet, while pushing your knees towards the ground. This exercise also stretches the groins. Again, here’s a video from Livestrong.com’s Amy McCauley.

Sit And Reach

This is one of the fitness tests to see how flexible you are. Start seated with your legs stretched out in front of you with both of your knees together. I don’t want you to lean forward. I just want you to stretch your arms out. When you reach your limit, drop your hands and neck, and feel the spine stretching. Proceed slowly with this one because you could actually strain your back if you push it too far.   You are not trying to touch your toes by leaning.

I want to remind you that every injury is different. We will guide you through a treatment plan, and we will provide you with specific exercises that loosen your body and lessen the pain.
